Thayeria sp. Red Tail Penguin
Description
Thayeria sp. Red Tail Penguin is a member of the well-known penguin tetra family (Thayeria), a staple in freshwater aquariums. The Red Tail Penguin variant brings a distinct color accent to your tank while staying true to the classic penguin tetra profile that hobbyists seek.
Within the four scientifically recognized Thayeria species—T. boehlkei, T. ifati, T. obliqua, and T. tapajonica—T. boehlkei is the species most frequently offered in the ornamental fish trade. Red Tail Penguin stock you encounter in stores is typically aligned with this widely distributed lineage, making it a familiar and dependable choice for builders of mixed-species displays.
These penguin tetras originate from South America, with natural distribution across Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, and Bolivia. This broad geographic background reflects their adaptability to a range of freshwater environments commonly recreated in home aquariums.
When you purchase Thayeria sp. Red Tail Penguin, you’re often getting offspring, which indicates a steady supply in the aquarium trade and the ability for hobbyists to establish healthy, reproducing populations in compatible setups.
