Iven Betta
Cichla Orinocensis
Description
Command steady visual interest in mid-sized freshwater displays with a compact, highly active aquarium specimen that maintains a manageable 7 cm length once fully mature. This fish delivers consistent movement and clear personality without dominating available water volume or requiring specialized commercial infrastructure.
Core Behavioral Traits
- Confident Exploration: exhibits a curious, mapping nature that actively investigates rockwork and plant clusters while establishing distinct personal boundaries when adequate cover is present.
- Dietary Flexibility: functions as an adaptable omnivore that readily accepts high-quality flake and pellet formats alongside frozen supplements like daphnia and brine shrimp during scheduled feeding cycles.
- Breeding Readiness: forms stable pairs capable of nesting and displaying natural courtship sequences when provided with isolated retreat spaces that minimize territorial disputes.
Habitat Configuration Guide
Construct a biotope-inspired environment using soft, naturally tinted water conditioned over a fine, soft substrate. Anchor weathered pieces of driftwood and scatter dried leaf litter to cultivate a shaded, low-current microclimate. Diffuse overhead illumination with either floating specimens or densely planted foreground vegetation to replicate forest-filtered sunlight and lower overall stress levels.
Compatibility & Routine Maintenance
Integrate this fish successfully alongside other tranquil, proportionally matched community dwellers. Exclude chronically aggressive taxa and species equipped with elongated fins that typically provoke defensive chases or tissue damage. Supply an abundance of ceramic caves, stacked terracotta pots, and narrow rock fissures to guarantee secure personal zones for each resident. Sustain optimal pigment expression and reproductive cycling through routine, measured water changes operating alongside quiet, efficient power filters that maintain steady clarity without generating disruptive flow.
